Raleigh's Mediterranean Market, Grill, and Grocery

Fresh halal meats, bold Mediterranean flavors, and a full grocery market on Hillsborough Street.

About Us

On Hillsborough Street, between NC State's campus and the Raleigh neighborhoods that surround it, Albaraka Mediterranean Market and Grill runs from 8 AM to midnight on weekends and serves a crowd that knows good food when they taste it. Over 1,500 reviews average out to a 4.4-star rating, and the regulars keep coming back for a reason: the food comes out hot and fresh, the shelves are stocked and clean, and the butcher counter is genuinely exceptional.

The menu draws from across the Mediterranean and Middle East, pulling flavors from Moroccan, Lebanese, and broader Middle Eastern traditions into one kitchen. You might grab a hearty sandwich for lunch, sit down for a full grilled plate at dinner, or load up a cart with specialty grocery items you cannot find anywhere else on that stretch of road. The atmosphere is easy and family-friendly, the kind of place where the staff will steer you toward a dessert and actually be right about it.

The market side of the operation is just as serious as the restaurant. Products are fresh and properly rotated, the halal meat selection is handled with care, and the shelves carry the imported staples that home cooks in Raleigh's diverse communities depend on. It is a full-service destination, not a convenience stop.

What We Offer

Albaraka operates as both a sit-down grill and a working grocery market, which means you can eat a meal and stock your pantry in a single visit. The grill menu covers Mediterranean and Middle Eastern classics: grilled meats, shawarma-style plates, fresh sandwiches, and traditional sides that are made to order rather than sitting under a heat lamp.

The halal butcher section is one of the most talked-about features in the building. Customers regularly call it the best they have found in the area, with fresh cuts available and staff who know their product. Beyond the butcher, the market carries imported pantry staples, spices, sauces, specialty beverages, and prepared foods that reflect the full range of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking.

Hours run seven days a week, with extended service until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, making Albaraka one of the few spots in Raleigh where a late-night halal meal is actually available. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch between classes or doing a full grocery run before the weekend, the operation is built to handle both.

"The food was surprisingly good. Products on the shelves were non-expired with zero dust on them (like so many other similar stores I have been to). The butcher section was absolutely the best. I’m buying all my meats from here. Customer service was excellent. A young cashier was so pleasant and courteous. The only negative is the strong smell of perfumes they sell in the corner. The smell is so strong it nearly burned my eyes and I hurried to eat my food inside. I have many friends who would not tolerate eating inside with the very strong smell of perfumes."

"Very bad experience. I do NOT recommend this place. We bought a hookah that was supposed to cost $94, but the cashier charged us $194 without saying anything. We noticed it and came back within 10 minutes. They processed a refund, but acted like nothing happened — no apology, no explanation. It honestly felt like this is something they do regularly, hoping customers won’t notice. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. Always double-check your receipt here. CASHIER Bassam Terrible service. Would not come back."

"I was always impressed with the quality of the Shwarma at Al- baraka. So when I had guests coming over from NYC I was more than happy to give them the advice to order from this place. But it was a disaster and utter disappointment of Shwarma as it was dry as hell inside with no flavor except for the garlic sauce. Never ordering again from here."

"Easily one of my favorite places for Arab food in the Raleigh area! The falafel wraps are such a good value for like 7.50 and super filling and delicious. Staff is usually very polite. Good dolmas, good shawarma, good baklava. I wish they had date mammoul but that's okay. I like it better than some of the other local spots. Sometimes the food can take a while but it's just because they get busy because they are beloved."
